Elena Denisova-Schmidt ist Research Associate an der Universität St.Gallen (HSG) (Schweiz) und Research Fellow am Boston College Center for International Higher Education (USA). Zuvor hatte sie Stellen an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, am Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, bei der Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, an der UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, am Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics an der Harvard University und am Aleksanteri Institut an der Universität von Helsinki inne. Vor Beginn ihrer akademischen Laufbahn arbeitete Elena Denisova-Schmidt für VSMPO-AVISMA in Russland. Ihr aktuelles Forschungsinteresse gilt Korruption und informellen Praktiken.

This paper, written together with Martin Huber (University of Fribourg, Switzerland) and Elvira Leontyeva (Pacific National University, Khabarovsk, Russia), received the best paper award from the Russian organization Obchestvo Znanie for contributions to corruption issues.

This paper was named in TOP-13 as one of the most interesting studies on Russia in 2013 by the Higher School of Economics.
